Art Drop Day!

Hey guys!

Today is #ArtDropDay where Artists - whether it’s professional or amateur are encouraged to drop a piece of art wherever they find themselves and provide clues on social media to help people find it.

I've decided to participate AND I'm going to make it easy on you!

I hid this Wolverine sketch card at my local LCS THE LAIR! And here's your hint to where I hid it -

"That time Karen Page sold her boyfriends secret Identity for a hit of Smack."

So if you know the answer head down to The Lair - 1808 Colden Ave, Bronx, NY10462 and claim your prize!!

Don't tread on me!

I don't usually do stuff like this..

But I suppose living in the current  "Knee jerk rage" world of social media has finally gotten the best of me and well, a blog IS supposed to be an outlet for thoughts and all that crap so...

It was brought to my attention last week that someone was passing my artwork off as their own. Going so far as to "Chop & Screw" my work on PS to create Faux Process pics. THAT was really funny. And ambitious on their end. If your going to lie about something go big I guess.

Long story short, after much digging I saw that this person passed off two of my drawings as their own and even submitted one of them to a Tee Fury style website. I contacted the website and they quickly removed the design and were very courteous and apologetic about what happened. The thief also removed my work from their various social media pages thanks to pressure from myself and a bunch of my friends and supporters (who were, let's just say verbally....STERN with the thief.)

This isn't the first time that this happened to me and it most likely won't be the last. In fact I'm shocked that people swipe anything from little ol' me. It's something that EVERY artist who posts work on the internet has to unfortunately deal with.

Yeah, it sucks. I know. But as long there's people like this on the internet -
It's something that we just have to deal with. Look, this post isn't about sour grapes, The stuff that was stolen from me was only a fraction of what I'm capable of, and in no way is this going to discourage me from sharing my work with those who actually appreciate it.

It''s just an annoyance. An annoyance that keeps me away from where I'd rather be. The drawing board. And I'd much rather be creating than tracking down some thief who's taking credit for something that I worked on.

So I'd like to leave these words to the little Klepto and their kin..

Instead of wasting all that time and energy surfing the web looking for art to poach, try focusing on building your OWN skillset. Do your OWN work.

Stealing work from other artists will get you no where. Professionally, artistically or personally.

It's not worth it.

Just stop.

The crowd at KCC 8!
This past weekend I had the pleasure of exhibiting my work at Kid's Comic Con 8 which took place at Bronx Community College. KCC is a great show that  produces an all-ages, family oriented comic convention where attendee's can not only meet and talk with artist's up close but can also participate in different games and events.

The KCC exclusive "Merle Squirrel" preview. available only at Kid's Comic Con 8
All in all I had a BLAST sketching for the kids and handing out a free preview of my upcoming comic "Merle Squirrel". KCC is a fantastic show run by fantastic people that comes with my highest recommendation. If you've never attended make sure you do so next year!

I had an absolute BLAST at THE LAIR yesterday for Free Comic Book Day. I had the pleasure of doing a TON of sketches for a bunch of great kids and even made a few new friends.
I'd like to extent a HUGE thanks to George (The owner of the Lair) for allowing me the opportunity to ply my wares at his store as well as the staff of the lair for all their support during the madness that was FCBD. Hands down The Lair is the absolute best Comic Book store in the Bronx. If you live in or around the Bronx, do yourself a favor and check it out.
Finally I'd like to thank my friends Noel, James and my cousins Johnny and Francisco and ALL the amazing patrons of the Lair for all their support and compliments on my work yesterday. It means a hell of a lot to me. You guys made this the BEST FCBD EVER!

Meeting Kenneth B. Morris Jr.

Last weekend I had the pleasure of attending the Brooklyn job corps Black history month celebration where I was honored to have had the opportunity to meet Kenneth B. Morris Jr. The great, great, great grandson of Fredrick Douglass AND the great, great grandson of Booker T. Washington.

Kenneth Morris is the founder and president of The Frederick Douglass Family Initiatives, a organization that raises awareness on modern day slavery / human trafficking. Please check out http://www.fdfi.org/ for more information on such an important cause.

Pictured is my Wife and myself along with Dr. Morris who was given one of four Illustrations (Pictured below) of Fredrick Douglass that I drew that was given to the event's keynote speakers.
